The Magic of SEO. What is it and why is it so important to optimise for?
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation
The core of Google search, if your website is well optimised it will rank higher in Google search and bring more traffic = customers in.
How can we optimise a website for SEO?
It's all about the right keywords and the relevance of your business to what customers are looking for.
As a website creator I follow a few best practices to make sure you get the visibility you want.
1. Metadata
Sounds fancy but it's just a short description of your pages that Google reads to understand what they are about. If you created your website yourself this is the detail that can be forgot about and it's very powerful.
This description is only seen on Google search not on your website.
2. Website Content
The headlines, titles and copy on your pages matter. Using the relevant keywords and mentioning your location can help bring more (local) customers in.
At times it's beneficial to bring new content in, i.e. a brand new page on one of your key services that customers are looking for.
3. Mobile optimisation
If the website is current and has a good mobile optimisation matters for Google as well - it's one of the factors that is taken into account by the algorithm.
Fun fact, did you know that about 60% of people are now searching on mobile? It's an important place to sell.
4. Speed score
The loading speed and overall "health" of your website could contribute to the SEO result. If your website is too "heavy", has too many pages, videos, photos and the platform or template is out of date - it's something to improve.
5. Google My Business
First of all, have one! Shows legitimacy and is great for Search on Maps.
Second, optimise it - the right business category, tags, services are important.
As well, it's a great marketing tool - customer reviews, posts on offerings and products are great.
